do I get to the marina where Live Wire is docked?
Orange Beach, Alabama. Take a look at this link
to find directions to Orange Beach.
-What
type of fish will I catch?
There are many different species available to catch in the waters
of the Gulf Coast. Depending on the season, check out what you
might be able to catch by clicking here.
-What
do I need to bring on a fishing trip?
You may want to bring plenty of food, drinks, sunscreen, sunglasses,
hat, camera, film, and motion sickness medication. Food and
drinks can be provided upon request at charter booking,
but just be sure to let Capt. Michael with a 48-hour notice,
so arrangements may be made.
-What
time do I need to be at the boat?
You should be at the boat 20 min. before scheduled departure.
For 6-8 hour trips, we like to leave between 6 and 7 am. 10
Hour Trips between 5 and 7 am, and for 2,3,&4 Hour Trips,
we can leave at a mutually convenient time of day.
- What is included in the price of the boat?

the fish are included.
- How is the Mate paid?
Please remember that the mate works for tips. A really good
mate can make all the difference in the trip, and Live Wire
believes that a mate will work to make your trip all that you
hope for. Some of the mate's duties will include, but are not
limited to, catching live bait, cutting/preparing bait, teaching
the client how to use the gear and equipment, teaching you "how
to fish," and aiding Captain Michael with any duties that
make for your trip on Live Wire exciting and pleasant. The mate
will usually arrive an one hour before our scheduled departure
time and may not leave until several hours after you leave cleaning
the boat, gear, fish, etc. Live Wire guests are kindly suggested
to tip 15-20% of the total fare paid, plus fish cleaning at
$.30 per pound to the mate.
- How far offshore will we go during a trip?
Depending on the length of your trip, we may venture anywhere
from 10 to 20 miles on a 4-6 hour fishing trip or 20 - 30 miles
on an 8-10 hour trip.
- How deep is the water?
The water where we fish on a bottom trip is anywhere from 50-200
feet deep.
- When is the best time of year to go fishing?
Depending on what you would like to catch is the best answer
to that question. Take a look at our fish chart
to come to that conclusion yourself. There is no real "better
time" of the year to fish than in the spring or the fall.
Although those months may not be best for family outings, fishing
tends to be best these times of year. And, as always, be sure
to prepare for the weather.
- What kind of tackle will we use?
We strive to use only the highest quality dependable rods and
reels available. We have a full array of tackle ranging from
30# spinning reels to Penn International 80 wides. For most
of the bottom trips, we use the conventional Penn 4/0 and 6/0.
We have over 15 combinations that we will select from. Take
a look at our gear on our boat info page.
- Can I bring my own personal tackle?
Captain Michael allows personal equipment and tackle on the
boat, keeping in mind that Live Wire and it's employees are
not responsible for lost or damage tackle or equipment.
